Inside Out — 2012

In this series, Paul Smith questions the status of the picture, mixing staged and instantaneous. He creates a doubt between fiction and reality until the two opposites merge into one.

The pictures were taken between Brussels and New York, with studio lights.

Francois founded his own clothing company thirty two years ago. Its long success and growth then came to an end after global economic turmoil. The Avance Diffusion group was then declared bankrupt. An irrevocable decision with heavy consequences. Paul convinces him to film him intimately, at work, on the move, at home, at a time when a possible recovery create strong tensions within a once strongly united team. Out of the hundred and twenty employees, no one is certain what future awaits them.
