At Work #4 — 2014

This video installation confronts two characters, put at a human scale. They are inhabitants of the Tangiers region. All have something in common, the wait around, isolated within a large cinemascope frame. Paralleling structural cinema, frontal and fixed sequence shots stretch time, making it elastic.

Waiting becomes an integral part of a work which oscillates between formal and informal, with the simple desire to stop and observe, to take one’s time.

Western culture only appreciates time regarding its profitability, whereas Paul observes these everyday moments with fascination. Work becomes non-work and vice versa. A deliberate vision of time in which nothing happens.
